My name is Yadira Contreras, HR Associate at MLK Community Hospital. August 2010 is the date I started in HSBA as a Freshman and I’m currently a proud HSBA Alumn of Class 2015. HSBA helped me grow personally and professionally. I grew out of my comfort zone and met some of my current AMAZING BEST FRIENDS, that I still keep in touch with. I served as a LSU Rep and Public Relations (Executive Board). Because of my five year involvement in HSBA, I landed an INTERNSHIP my sophomore year and a FULL-TIME POSITION a semester before I graduated. I can now speak in front of large crowds and I’m not afraid to network, interview, or speak to professionals I meet. I will forever be proud to have been part of one of the top organizations at CSULB, which has won “Organization of the Year” many times against 300 organizations! HSBA will forever be, “Mi Familia.”
My name is Leslie Gutierrez, former HSBA Public Relations. During my years at the California State University, Long Beach I wanted to give my time to an organization or group on campus that I felt would be valuable to both my educational success and professionalism. Thankfully, I found HSBA. HSBA developed me as a person and a student leader. I left college more prepared, professional and educated. Nonetheless, my college experience would have not been the same if it wasn’t for HSBA. Once in HSBA, you BLEED HSBA !
I was immediately drawn to HSBA because it encompasses everything a student needs to succeed. After being a member for a semester, I decided to run for an officer position and I was then chosen as one of the corporate relations directors. With that position I was able to develop new skills that will help me excel as both a professional and as an individual. Not only am I better prepared for life after college, but because of HSBA, I have made bonds that I am confident will last a lifetime. I’m truly honored to be part of this amazing association and I will continue to represent HSBA proudly during the time that I’ll be studying abroad in Spain!
